WhatsApp Developing Passkey Feature for Enhanced Account Verification

This exciting development is included in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.17.5, which is currently available on the Google Play Store and will soon reach a wider user base.
As per WABetaInfo, the Passkey feature aims to offer users a simple yet highly secure method of signing in. A Passkey is a concise sequence of characters or numbers used to authenticate one’s identity, serving as a robust security code that ensures only authorized devices gain access.
The best part? You don’t need to worry about remembering the Passkey, as it’s securely stored within your Google Password Manager. WhatsApp has ambitious plans to leverage this technology for account verification purposes.
The Passkey feature leverages multiple forms of biometric authentication, including fingerprints, facial recognition, or your device’s screen lock, providing an additional layer of security that goes beyond traditional methods like PINs. Moreover, the Passkey’s secure storage in Google Password Manager ensures easy and convenient access for users.
Please note that the Passkey feature is currently under development and is expected to be rolled out in a future update of the WhatsApp application.
