
June 2023 Sees a Drop of 1.04 Million 3G/4G Users in Pakistan: Insights and Analysis
The latest report from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) highlights a noticeable decrease in the number of 3G/4G users across the country in June 2023. This marks the third consecutive month of decline, impacting not only cellular subscribers but also broadband penetration and overall teledensity.
Specifically, the count of 3G and 4G users experienced a reduction of 1.04 million, transitioning from 124.11 million at the close of May to 123.07 million by the conclusion of June.
Simultaneously, the total cellular subscriber base underwent a decline, shifting from 192.27 million at the end of May 2023 to 190.95 million as June drew to a close.
The Monthly Next Generation Mobile Service (NGMS) penetration, however, witnessed a marginal increase, rising from 52.3% in May to 52.34% by the end of June.
In terms of teledensity, the cellular aspect exhibited a dip, declining from 81.03% in May to 80.34% by the close of June. Correspondingly, the overall teledensity recorded a decrease from 82.12% to 81.43%.
Turning attention towards individual telecom operators, Jazz experienced a decline in both its 3G and 4G user base during the previous month.
Jazz’s 3G users contracted from 4.445 million in May to 4.375 million, indicating a decrease of 0.07 million. Likewise, Jazz’s 4G users decreased from 42.377 million to 42.356 million within the same timeframe.
Zong, on the other hand, observed a reduction in its 3G subscribers, decreasing from 2.577 million in May to 2.526 million in June. However, the count of 4G users for Zong registered an increment, ascending from 32.298 million to 32.492 million during the same period.
Telenor’s 3G subscribers followed a similar trend, declining from 2.841 million in May to 2.803 million in June. Correspondingly, the number of Telenor’s 4G users also experienced a slight decrease, going from 22.934 million to 22.896 million.
Ufone’s 3G users also faced a reduction, with the count falling to 2.687 million by the end of June compared to 2.705 million in May. Nevertheless, Ufone’s 4G user base showcased growth, climbing from 12.498 million to 12.778 million, marking an increase of 0.28 million.
